Of course Open Innovation is not only for companies but also for state organisations. StockholmCity has started one of unique collaboration for the Stockholm residents. An Innovation house idea inside KTH has turned to OpenLab, a collaboration platform between Stockholm City and Stockholm Universities. The Open Lab offers a physical space where new ideas can be born and put in practice for the development of Stockholm with collaboration of students and researchers at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Karolinska Institute, Stockholm University and Södertörn University and member of Stockholm County Council and the County Board. The aim is to find solutions to complex problems of developing Stockholm and increase competitiveness of region in order to have sustainable development of Stockholm region.
Margareta Norell Bergendahl is the professor at KTH and the initiator of Open Lab. Finance Mayor Sten Nordin also leads the steering committee of Open Lab.Open Labs program activities will span a wide range of activities and is linked to the themes and projects underway in OpenLab. Open Lab will also offer a 15 credit project course “ Innovations for the Emerging City, Open Lab Multidisciplinary Project Course” to all partner universities students.
Within the two main areas of focus for OpenLab The growing city and the sustainable city housed a number of challenges that relate to the following areas:
- Health and Health Care
- Urban Urban Development
- Labour and skills
- Environmental and Climate Change
- The aging population
- Infrastructure (transport)
- Research and innovation structure
The closest event of Open Lab is the workshop in Almadalen 4 of July 2013. OpenLabs will have an Open workshop at Almadalen where participants will work together with Stockholm Politicians, scholars, opinion leaders and students. The problem that will be discussed will be :How do we get more people to want to work as a teacher? How do we create a cohesive health care for those who need action from both the health care and local government?
